Supporting Hope Valleys Retained Firefighters.

For many years Hope Cement Works has supported Hathersage and Bradwell fire stations by allowing them to use the works for training and releasing employees who have signed up to be in the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Before being accepted for their roles as retainer firefighter's, Hope employee’s, Mark Taylor, (Shift Process Operator) and Craig Wharton, (Control Operator), had to undertake written, physical (medical and fitness) tests and attend weekly training sessions, now they are both fully trained and part of the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue, playing an important part in responding to local emergencies.

The in-depth involvement of the Hope Firefighters in general,  drew praise from Paul Hudson, Response Crew Manager, Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service, who presented one of Hope's Shift Team Leaders Tim Walsh, with a plaque on behalf of the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, said:

“I’m amazed by the support Breedon is offering us. Having a company who has released staff for years to attend incidents is fantastic alone, but to also have them offer their help with on-call recruitment within their company and offer on-site training/exercises and planning is something very rare.”
